Fiddle Beginner Course

Introduction and what to expect

In this chapter, you’ll get comfortable with the violin and bow. We’ll start by exploring the body and parts of the instrument, learn how to tune, and then cover the essentials of holding both the violin and bow.

In these videos, you’ll start using your left hand to play notes on the violin. We’ll begin by plucking simple notes, then move on to familiar tunes like Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. You’ll also learn the G major scale, giving you a solid foundation for the melodies to come.

Here you’ll begin creating sound with the violin. You’ll first learn how to prepare your bow with rosin so you’re ready to make your first sounds on your instrument. We’ll then cover the basics of bowing and introduce simple wrist exercises to help you develop smooth, controlled motion. These are your first steps toward producing a beautiful tone.

Start bowing with simple songs and the G major scale. You’ll learn Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, all in the key of G.

Build on your skills by playing in D major. You’ll learn Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, all in the key of D.

In this final chapter, you will start playing in A major. We’ll revisit Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the key of A.
